During Thanksgiving week we went up to Cashiers to spend some quiet time with the family and it snowed. Yay!!! We decided to head outside to the Christmas tree farm for a few holiday photos! It was chilly, but we all had a blast!
Last week while we were in Cashiers we went to Dollar General and bought some cheap plastic glasses from the Halloween section for you guys to play dress up with…. We quickly learned that the eyeballs on the glasses would pop out and then they were just colorful frames. Avett, you took a particular liking to these glasses and wore them nonstop! Here you are reading your favorite culinary magazine with them… And reading a book before nap time…And hanging out with Papa… Making yet another fashion statement…Dada wanted to get in on the fun… Love our little stylin’ man!
This week we spent some quality time with Nana up in Cashiers. We decided to head back to Cliffside Recreation area to check out some fall color… Avett is telling us to, “Come on!”And off you two go together through a tunnel of rhododendrons…The color around the lake was gorgeous! Just the reflections in the water were stunning! Not a bad place to run and play!We stopped to have a snack at the picnic tables… and found a really cool fuzzy caterpillar!Once we started hiking again Nana found some cool mushroom! Then, we threw a few rocks into the water…We hiked for a while…and then we got tired….We stopped for a last look over the lake at the end of our hike. Love you guys…
So, mommy has had a really packed schedule and dropped off on her weekly photo shoot. However, I recently cleaned off all of the pictures from my cell phone and had so much fun seeing all of the cute pictures that I had forgotten about on there! This post has a few of my oldie but goodie favorites from the cell phone!
This week Dada had Fall Break, so we took a few days to go up to Cashiers together. It was wonderful! We did some hiking, some crafting, some playing in waterfalls, etc. Here we are at Cliffside Recreation Area just outside of Highlands, NC. It was a great little trail that took us through rhododendron tunnels, over several bridges, with a picnic area for a snack, and even a waterfall!
Avett led the way through the trails…Dada and his little hikers! Our next stop was Sliding Rock, just outside of Highlands, NC. We had a great time playing in the water and building sand castles. This was a beautiful spot and super easy to get to! Later that night we decided to have craft time with you guys out at the Chimney Garden, where mama and dada got married over 6 years ago! We love this place and thought it would be a great place to spend some time outside doing a fall craft! Mama made trees out of brown construction paper and you guys made “leaves” with your fingerprints.
Dada had a great idea to dip bits of lichen into the ink pad and then use it on the paper to make “grass” under the tree. Cody, you were excited to try it out! Then, we dipped leaves into the ink pads! Cody, you were excited to show us your tree! Your final product! Cody’s is on the left, Avett’s on the right! After we were done crafting, we had some great playtime outside. You LOVE when Dada throws you in the air!!! Cody ran around the trees for a little while…
For the July 4th holiday we often head up to Cashiers, NC and visit my parents mountain house. You guys LOVED every minute of exploring the wilderness up there! We took golf cart rides all over Bridge Creek and would get out and explore each new area. We saw bunnies (which you guys both call “hop hops”) nibbling on clover, baby toads down by the big pond (“ribbits”), and wild turkeys running for cover when they saw us coming in the golf cart. We even got to see dump trucks and diggers working at the top of the mountain! I think my favorite part was driving around with you guys in the golf cart in our laps calling, “Here hop hops….here hop hops…”
I wasn’t sure how you guys would feel about seeing and hearing your first fireworks, but you loved them and kept asking for more! We went to the Village Green in Cashiers, danced and listened to music and watched your first set of fireworks. You guys were troopers and hung in there even though it was past your bedtime. The next day we played outside all day! The covered bridge leading into Bridge Creek was a big hit!Uh oh! Cody “fall down”!
Both of you ran back and forth over the bridge! We also found rocks and threw them over the side to watch the go “kerplunk” into the creek below!
Cody, you loved to walk on the balance beam down the bridge…Next we went down to the big pond and ran around like crazy!Avett had fun sliding down the Adirondack chair foot rest.Cody, you found sweet little tiny toads and wanted to “hold it”… Then, you found some Black Eyed Susan wildflowers and had some fun!Avett, you worked up an appetite and came back to the porch to eat a snack with your buddy Frei… Cody, you are very focused on potty training right now. Washing your hands afterwards is very important…Our friend Tammy came to see us and brought you guys the sweetest little onesies! Here you are modeling them for her before bedtime!Lastly, we took our annual picture of both of you with the Tyre twins. They are 1 day older than you and live in Atlanta and have a vacation home in Cashiers, NC just around the corner from Nana & Papa’s house. Here is a side by side pic of all of you for the last 2 years! It is unbelievable how much you have grown in the last two years. We love all of you!
